Clayton County Register, 21 July 1937.

GARBER: It is with deep sorrow this community received word of the sudden death of Mrs. Albert Matt, nee Minnie Meyer, at Mercy hospital, Dubuque. Mrs. Matt was taken seriously ill on July 09th and was rushed to Mercy hospital where she died soon after an emergency operation was performed.

Mrs. Matt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Meyer, was born in Volga township on October 27, 1881, and died at Dubuque on July 10, at the age of 56 years, eight months and 13 days. Mrs. Matt lived in this community all her life. A life that was beautiful in its simplicity came to a close when Death took from this happy home a tender, loving wife and mother. Mrs. Matt possessed a charming personality and her friendly greeting was extended to both young and old. Her memory will long live with us. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family who are so grief stricken. She was a friend in need (deed ??) and always willing to help others when trouble or sorrow overtook them. The many spiritual and floral bouquets gave silent tribute to the high regard in which she was held in this community.

She was married to Albert Matt on May 09, 1900, at Garnavillo, by the Rev. Mr. Radler.

Mrs. Matt is survived by her husband and the following children: Bernice, Earl and Lloyd, at home; Viola, now Mrs. A, H. Berns, and Arthur of West Union; Marie, now Mrs. Henry Berns, of Guttenberg. One brother, Joe Meyer, of Elkader, also eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by one daughter who died in infancy; also her parents and several brothers. Her father died when she was a young girl at home; her mother died only four months ago.

Funeral services were held in St. Michael's Catholic church, Garber, on Monday morning at 9:00. The Requiem Mass was read by the pastor, The Rev. Wm. Goetzinger. Burial took place in the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo. Rev. Goetzinger read the prayers at the grave.

The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives and friends from far and near. The pallbearers were Frank Sheffert, Emil Zittergruen, Herman Kruse, Wm. Dryer, Alphonse Whittle and Roy Berns.
