Thomas Tujetsch died at his home west of Elkader on Feb. 17, at 5:17 p.m. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Feb. 20, at ten o'clock in St. Joseph's church here with a solemn high mass, and burial was made in the East Side cemetery by the side of his wife, who had preceded him in death Jan. 30, 1914.
Thomas Tujetsch was born Nov. 18, 1846, in Canton Graeubunden, Fellers, Switzerland, and so at the time of his death had reached the age of 90 years, two months and 29 days.
He was the fifth child of a family of four brothers and three sisters, and is the last of that family to be taken by death.
With his parents, brothers and sisters, he came to America when he was 12 years of age, and with the exception of about 12 years he made his home within about 5 1/2 miles of Elkader during all those years.
October 23, 1868, he was united in marriage with Miss Caroline E. Hartman. To this union six children were born. Three children - one daughter and two sons - died in youth, while the family lived in Sioux county: Maria at the age of ten, Christ at the age of nine, and John at the age of six. Another son, Albert, died April 07, last year. He leaves to mourn his death, two daughters, Cora and Minnie, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The deceased was a member of St. Joseph's church here and he was fortified by the last rites of his church.
Casket-bearers were: George Ehrhardt, J. J. Kuehl, M. J. Garaghty, Otto Germar, N. E. Glesne and Jos. Winkler.
