VOLGA: Burial services for Mrs. Emaline Whitford, 87 were held at Hill Crest cemetery here Wednesday afternoon. The pallbearers were: Claud Smith, Harry Robinson, Waldo Walker and Forrest Claxton.
She died at her home in Fayette, following a long illness. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. R. E. Bennington of Volga City, Mrs. Harry Bennington of Rag_, Kansas, and Mrs. Carl Master and Jay Whitford, both of Fayette; four brothers, Phillip Albright in Montana; Albert in Illinois; Wilbur and Charles, both in Florida; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
As Emaline Albright, she was born one of twelve children, in 1849, in Illinois. Her father was one of the founders of Upper Iowa University at Fayette. She taught in the schools of Fayette, Clayton, Clay and Winneshiek counties following her graduation from the college. She was married to Warner Whitford on Feb. 28, 1878, at Illyria. After a few years spent in Volga City and Kansas, the family settled in Fayette in 1908, where the home had since been made. Her husband died in 1934 and two children preceded her in death.
