Clayton County Register, 09 Sept. 1936.

With the death of Chris P. Larson, Elkader and surrounding territory lost another highly respected citizen. He will be missed greatly, not only by his immediate relatives but also by a host of friends.

The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Larson and was born in Highland township, Clayton county, on the 25th day of September, 1876. He died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 01, reaching the age of 59 years, 11 months and 06 days.

The deceased spent his entire life in Clayton county. For about ten years he operated a farm in Highland township, the old homestead, and then in the year 1922 he came to Elkader where he has made his home ever since.

In the fall of that year he was elected Sheriff of this county and was re-elected in 1924, 1926 and 1928, holding that office from January 01, 1923, to December 31, 1930.

Mr. Larson made an able sheriff and his record in the office will live long after him. He was active in the affairs of the Republican party, of which he had been a life-long member.

Mr. Larson was baptized by Rev. Gerslad, and was a member of Highland church until a short time ago when he united with Friedens Evangelical church of Elkader. He was a member of the Masonic order.

The deceased was enjoying good health until about three months ago when he was afflicted with a heart ailment. He immediately consulted his physician and after several weeks of treatment here was sent to Rochester in the hope of receiving help there, but to no avail. After the first attack he was confined to his bed most of the time and was called upon to go through much suffering until the angel of death relieved him.

The deceased was never married. One sister, Isabel, and his parents preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure three brothers and one sister: Lars Larson, Ed. Larson and Mrs. Albert Larson, all of Elkader, and Henry Larson of St. Olaf, and one half-brother, Perry Larson, of Elgin.

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the Friedens Evangelical church, followed by services at the Highland Lutheran church in Highland township, with burial in the Highland cemetery. The Rev. P. Kitterer of this place and the Rev. G. Gunsten of Clermont officiated.
