Clayton County Register, 26 Aug. 1936.
Mrs. Delila Tyler died Wednesday evening, August 19, at the Lenth hospital here, of old age and complications as a result of a fractured hip. She had been ill since May 21, the date of her fall.
Delila Munger was born Oct. 24, 1851, in Crawford county, Penn., the daughter of Jarins and Cordelia (Armstrong) Munger, so that at the time of her death she had reached the age of 84 years, 9 months and 25 days.
The deceased came to this county in the year 1867 to live with her parents on a farm northeast of Elkader. In 1874 she was united in marriage with Lyman Tyler here in Elkader and during all those 62 years she has been a resident of this community. Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1904.
Two children were born to this union, namely, Maud Inez (Mrs. Gerhard Anderson) who died in 1918 and Henry Lyman, who preceded his mother in death in 1905. Two grandchildren survive, namely Ferol Iona Tyler of Chicago, and Esther Anderson, Elkader, as well as two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Ellis of LaCrosse, Wis., and Mrs. Clara Whitcomb of Elkader.
Like most of the early residents of this county Mrs. Tyler received only a common school education. Her first thoughts were always for her home and family and for many years she worked with her husband in the carpet weaving business.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon and burial was made in the East Side cemetery on the family lot, the Rev. Noyce Bartholomew officiating.
Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral services included the following:
Mrs. Agnes Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. C. Ashle and daughter of LaCrosse, Wis.; Mrs. Effie Munger and son William and Leo McGinnis of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. G. Anderson of Minneapolis; Mrs. Helen Tyler of St. Paul and daughter Ferol of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
