Clayton County Register, 12 Aug. 1936.

LITTLEPORT: Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 09, for Christian Hildebrand at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Meese, in Littleport, at 2:15 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Hope church of Littleport. Burial was made in the Union cemetery, the Rev. F. E. Damm officiating.

Christian Hildebrand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hildebrand, was born in Bredenfeld_, Mecklenberg Schwerin, Germany, Feb. 02, 1850. In his infancy he was baptized and later instructed and confirmed. In the year 1871 he emigrated to America and lived with his brother-in-law and sister, 3 1/2 miles south of Elkport. During his first years he worked by day and month endeavoring to have a home of his own.

Feb. 25, 1876, he was married to Miss Katherine Helgerman of Madison, Wis., who preceded him in death just eight months ago. After many trials and much hard labor he acquired an 80 acre farm south of Littleport, at which place he lived practically all his life, with the exception of nine years in Littleport.

The deceased was a hard working man, and since the death of his wife he felt lost and was homesick. His last days in this world were spent at the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Meese, of Littleport. After failing health had sapped his strength, he was called to his reward Aug. 07, 1936, at 4:30 p.m., having reached the age of 86 years, five months and five days. Peace and bliss are his lot now. Those left to mourn his departure are his three children: Mrs. Mary Wolfe of Strawberry Point, Chas. Hildebrand of Edgewood, and Mrs. Elizabeth Meese of Littleport; also ten grandchildren and other relatives. Casket bearers were: John Thurn, Fred Scheer, John Gentz, Ed Meese, Chas. Gentz and Chris Gentz.
