Clayton County Register, 08 July 1936.

Funeral services for Mrs. D. E. Gleason, who died at her home here Tuesday, June 5th, at about 5:00 p.m., were held last Thursday forenoon at 9:30 in St. Joseph's church, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.

Mrs. Gleason had been ill in bed only about a week when death overtook her. She was born April 26, 1862, in Cox Creek township, this county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Quinn, and so, at the time of her death, had reached the age of 74 years, two months and four days.

The deceased was one of 15 children, eleven of whom were living when her father died in 1917. Her father's living descendants at that time numbered 90.

Mr. and Mrs. Gleason were united in marriage on October 06, 1885, and Elkader has been their home ever since. Last October this venerable couple had the privilege of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their children, grandchildren and a large number of friends. That event was one of the high spots of Mrs. Gleason's life, as this writer learned following that event.

Mrs. Gleason was a home-loving woman who devoted her life to her husband and children, but she also found time to be a kindly neighbor, ready to assist in any way that she could. Her acts of kindness were many, though always quietly done.

Besides her husband she is survived by seven children. Three children preceded the mother in death. The living children are: Mrs. Eva Prouty, Elkader; R. V. Gleason, Minneapolis; C. D. Gleason, New Hampton; Mrs. Mary Brown, Minneapolis; Mrs. Carl Opperman, Elkader; Wm. J. Gleason, New Hampton; and Mrs. Frances Berns, Strawberry Point. A brother, P. H. Quinn, Strawberry Point, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Ivory, Elkader, also survive, as well as eleven grandchildren, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral services.

Mrs. Gleason was a devout member of the Catholic church and a member of the Royal Neighbors. There as well as at home, she will be sadly missed.

Her casket bearers were: Andrew and Thomas Cassidy, Nick Finnegan, Mike Eischeid, E. C. Fitzpatrick and J. F. Maley.
