FARMERSBURG: Funeral services for Mrs. Christopher Oelke, who died at her home at LaCrosse, Wis., the evening of May 02, were held at the St. John's Lutheran church at Farmersburg on the afternoon of May 05, the Rev. H. M. Adix officiating. Brief services were also held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Reardon. Burial was made in the Garnavillo cemetery.
Mrs. Christopher Oelke, nee Emma Buck, was born March 22, 1873, near Farmersburg. She was baptized the same year at Clayton Center. On April 18, 1886, she was confirmed in the Lutheran church by Rev. Seifert.
On March 10, 1891, she was united in marriage to Christopher William Oelke. to this union were born nine children, two of them preceding her in death: Harold and Victor. Those surviving are her husband, two sons, Lawrence and Carlton, of Mindoro, Wis., five daughters, Elsie, Mrs. Chas. Barton, of Chicago; Theresa, Mrs. Earl Walter, and Vivian, Mrs. Roy Reardon, both of Farmersburg; Berniece, Mrs. Eddie Peterson, of Melrose, Wis; Favorite, Mrs. Jack Welda, of Mindoro, Wis.; eleven grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Henry Vulgraff, Farmersburg; Mrs. Chas. Oelke, Kansas City; Mrs. Anna Sabbann, Monona, and Mrs. Jessie Torion; one brother, Emil Buck, of Calmar, besides many other relatives and friends.
She spent her early married life on a farm, moving to Farmersburg Jan. 15, 1909, residing here until Nov. 21, 1919. Then the family moved to a farm one mile east of Mindoro, Wis. On April 16, 1936, she moved to La Crosse, Wis., where she spent the remainder of he life. Her presence, her helpfulness, and her friendship will be missed, not only by her own family, but by the neighborhood.
