Clayton County Register, 18 Mar. 1936.
MONONA: Mrs. Frank X. Steiert, aged 51, died Sunday morning after an illness of several months. She had submitted to an operation at the Kallman hospital in Postville last January, and later complications set in after her return to her home, and in spite of the loving care of her daughter and friends she passed away Sunday morning.
She was born September 04, 1885, at Boston, Mass., the daughter of John and Mary Antley, and at the age of five, with other orphans, she was taken to Cherry Mound where they were reared by friends and adopted parents. Mary* Antley was married to Frank X. Steiert in 1905 and they lived in Monona most of the time since. One daughter, Inez, now Mrs. Arbie Heckman of Postville; the widower, Frank X. Steiert, and also four little grandchildren, Jean, Donald, Ann and Robert Heckman, survive her.
Funeral services were held at ten o'clock Tuesday morning from the St, Patrick's Catholic church in Monona, and burial was made in the parish cemetery. Her nephew, the Rev. Father Gerald V. Steiert of Cedar Rapids, sang the mass of requiem and said the prayers at the grave, assisted by the local pastor, the Rev. Father Luke Donlon. Pallbearers were: Herbert A. Wager, Charles Havlicek, Patrick H. English, Frank R. Bothel, Alfred T. Huinker and George C. Balekos. She was Oracle of Royal Neighbors of America, Oak Leaf Camp No. 5702, of Monona, and a faithful member of the local Women's Relief Corps, who attended the funeral in a body. The large attendance at the funeral attested to the high esteem in which she was held.
The Register and entire community extend their sympathy to the widower and daughter in their loss of a faithful and loving wife and mother.
Friends from out of town who attended the funeral included: Mrs. Chas. McCormick and Pete Heim of Harper's Ferry; Mr. and Mrs. A. Baskel, Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Elliott of Cherry Mound; and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Foster of Riceville.
