Clayton County Register, 18 Mar. 1936.

The entire community was startled Monday afternoon and evening, when it was reported that Herman Reimer was seriously ill and there was little hope for his recovery. The seriousness of his condition was realized Monday morning and immediately arrangements were made to bring him to Lenth's hospital and to call a specialist to consult with the local physician. In spite of the loving care of his family and the medical skill, God in his infinite wisdom saw otherwise, and death called him at 8:30 a.m., March 11, 1936, at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Herman Theophil Reimer was born March 22, 1885, on a farm in Volga township. His entire life was spent on this farm. He was the second youngest son of Karl Reimer and his wife, Marie (Nee Speiser).

He was united in marriage to Marie Kuehl of Boardman township on February 24, 1910, and immediately the young couple started farming for themselves on the farm where he was born and spent his entire life. Six children blessed this union, namely: Orville, married to Beulah Oldham, residing on a farm in Read township; Haldon, Laurine, Clarence, Catherine and Melvin, at home.

Mr. Reimer always enjoyed good health, with the exception of an attack of Rheumatism in the year 1918, from which he fully recovered. He was active in his farm work until he suffered a stroke Saturday afternoon, March 07th, from which he never fully regained consciousness. His wife and entire family, as well as close relatives and friends were constantly at his bedside.

Mr. Reimer was a kind, considerate and loving husband and father and enjoyed more than anything else to be in his home with his loved ones and friends. His happy disposition will be greatly missed, not only by his family but also by his neighbors and a large circle of friends.

The loved ones left to mourn are his devoted and faithful wife, and six children; also, one grandson, Gerald Lajoy, and the following brothers and sisters: Henry Reimer, Louisa Splies, Lena Sadewasser, Charles Reimer and Wm. C. Reimer.

One sister, Carrie Fritz, and his parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock at the Evangelical church, with burial in the Garnavillo cemetery. The Rev. P. Kitterer of the local church officiated.
