Clayton County Register, 29 Jan. 1936.

Word was received here Saturday that Wayne M. Coykendall, a former resident of this place, passed away Friday evening in a Cedar Rapids hospital. Death was the result of a paralytic stroke suffered Friday afternoon.

Wayne Coykendall, son of Mose and Mary Coykendall, was born at Strawbery Point Jan. 23, 1881 [sic]. He received his education in the local public school and graduated with the class of 1898. He conducted a drug store at Oelwein, where he was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Platt. Soon afterwards they came to Strawberry Point where Mr. Coykendall and John M. Henry, now of Greeley, conducted a drug store. After disposing of the business here, Mr. and Mrs. Coykendall moved to Cedar Rapids where they operated a grocery and a short time ago disposed of that.

The deceased was a member of Iowa Consistory, the El Kahir Shrine and the Blue lodge, and the M.W.A. Beside his widow he is survived by one brother, Gorda M. Coykendall, of Waterloo, and three sisters, Mrs. M. V. (Una) Kehoe, Misses Ula and Deva Coykendall, all of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held in the Turner chapel at Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. E. D. Wells. The body was placed in a receiving vault at the Turner chapel and will remain there until the brother and his wife will return from Florida in the spring, when the remains will be brought to the Strawberry Point cemetery to be laid to rest.
