Clayton County Register, 01 Jan. 1936.
Anna Maria Andreae was born August 20, 1881, on the homestead of her parents, Isador and Catharine Fliehler, at St. Sebald, Iowa. Her parents, who were members of the St. Sebald congregation, sent her to confirmation instruction under Rev. Fuehr, the pastor of the church at that time. She was confirmed with her class in the spring of the year 1895.
Following her confirmation, she worked for several of her relatives until she was married to Sebald Conrad Andreae on the 04th of October, 1906. Both began farming on the place which until now remained their home. Their union was blessed with three children: two daughters and one son.
Our deceased sister seemed to be in good health until a week ago, when she became seriously ill, necessitating her removal to the hospital at Oelwein, where an operation was performed. Although she withstood the operation successfully and showed good cause for hopes of a complete recovery, she was overtaken by death the same night at about 12 o'clock, December 20, 1935. She attained an age of 54 years and four months.
All her life she had been a faithful and active member of the St. Sebald church, and the congregation loses one of its most faithful members. In the home she was a loving wife and mother, always caring for her loved ones, and her loss is keenly felt by her family.
On Friday, the evening after her operation, she was fortified by receiving the blessed sacrament of holy communion, and living and dying in the faith of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her untimely death is mourned by her husband, who loses in her a very devout and faithful wife, by her three children, Lottie (Mrs. Carl Schmidt) of Strawberry Point; Ruth, employed as secretary in the Lutheran Home at Muscatine; and Herbert, at home. There are also six sisters and two brothers: Emma (Mrs. Gottlob Graesch); Elizabeth (Mrs. John Huebsch); Pauline (Mrs. Fred Schuchmann), all of Strawberry Point; Mary (Mrs. Paul Busse) of Seattle, Wash.; Amalia (Mrs. Frank Peuss) of Volga City; Sophia ( Mrs. George Mandeville) of Oelwein, and Christian Fliehler and Gottlieb Fliehler of Strawberry Point.
Her twin sister, Katherine (Mrs. Carl Huebsch), and another sister, Christinia (Mrs. Peter Schug), preceded her in death several years ago.
Funeral services were held at one o'clock in the home and at 1:30 in St. Sebald church, Rev. M. O. Jahr of Strawberry Point, and Rev. F. H. Voelker of Oelwein conducting services, the former in German and the latter in English. Interment was made in the St. Sebald cemetery. The following were pallbearers: Carl Zwanziger, Louie Baumgartner, Fred Kramer, August Druecker, Herman Otdoerfer and Emil Baumgartner.
