Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Dec. 1912. Volga column.
Mr. Thomas Templeman, who after a short sickness passed to his heavenly reward last Sabbath morning, was born at White_sea, Cambridgeshire, England, in the year of 1825 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kelly, of Volga City, Ia., December 08th, 1912, aged 87 years and 13 days.
Mr. Templeman came to this country from England in 1851 and located at Buffalo, N.Y., where he lived about a year and then returned to England. In March 1853 he was married to Miss Anna Hartley Brown, of England. Shortly after their marriage he returned with his wife to America and settled at Cleveland, Ohio, where they lived a year, after which they came to Iowa and bought a farm 4 miles west of Elkader, where they resided until 1892, when they sold their farm and moved into the town of Elkader, Ia. where they lived for the past twenty years.
To this happy union were born three children, two sons and one daughter. The two sons died in early life. It was not long after they had moved from the farm to Elkader that Mrs. Templeman died and left a loneliness in the life of the bereft husband. He made his home with his daughter, who is now Mrs. E. B. Kelly. In early life he became a member of the Episcopal Church and remained a faithful member of the same until the master called him higher. He was a kind man, a helper of the helpless, a good neighbor, a splendid citizen and a Christian gentleman. Prayer was a vital element of his Christian character and the Bible was the spiritual chart of his life.
His end was peaceful, the rest from his labor and his works do follow him.
The funeral services were held a the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B, Kelly on Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Walter Piper, Pastor of the M.E. church, who took for his text the 90th Psalm and the first verse. The interment was at the Protestant Cemetery, Elkader, where his mortal remains rest by the side of those of his beloved wife, waiting for the resurrection morn.
