Christina Splies, Nee Brucker, was born in Deberton, Morgan county, Ohio, on July 14th, 1833. In 1847 the family journeyed to Garnavillo, going by steamer to Dubuque and from there the journey was completed with a team of oxen. On Jan. 13th, 1850, she was joined in holy wedlock with Jacob Splies and only sixteen years of happy wedded life was allotted them. Six children were born to this union, namely: Fred of Luana; John of Monona; Carrie Wirkler, of Garnavillo; Louise Meyer and Emilie Meyer, of Postville; and Will at home. The deceased has been a patient sufferer for the past three years. She was relieved of her suffering on the evening of October 03rd and the funeral services were held on Sunday at St. Paul's church, Rev. Braun officiating.
