Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Aug. 1912.
It is rare that a young person's death sends through the whole community such a shock and draws such a throb of deep sympathy and common regret from all as that of Mrs. Lucas Olson who died at her home in Marion township Saturday morning, August 17th, 3:20 a.m.
Every effort that love and anxiety could suggest had been exhausted to save her and she was brave and heroic in the fight for life, but in vain.
Emma Reinhart was born Nov. 13, 1892, and was confirmed with a class of twenty in the year 1907 by Rev. Bursett. She was a devoted member of the Clermont Congregation, where she, in her girlhood, was a member of the Clermont choir.
September 13, 1910, she was united in marriage to Lucas Olson by Rev. Bursett at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart.
The same fall Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Olson moved to Elgin and lived there about two years, where a son was born to bless their home. This spring they moved to their farm in Marion township and shortly after she was taken sick. During the five months of sickness Mrs. Olson received the best of care from her beloved ones, until she was relieved of all earthly sufferings on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 3:20 a.m., aged 19 years, 9 months and 4 days. Flowers may fade and die. Her last words to those dear ones who were with her were: "Oh ! I hope we meet in Heaven."
On Tuesday, Aug. 20th, she was laid to rest at the Clermont church cemetery, services conducted by Rev. Bursett. Very few funerals of late years have drawn such a throng to the church where many had to stand.
She leaves to mourn her death the grief stricken husband, Lucas Olson, and son Clarion, an aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart; one sister, Mrs. Milo Reed, of Charles City, and five brothers, Melvin, Robert, and Andrew, of Elgin, and Conrad and Rudy, of North Dakota, and a number of relatives and friends. The names of the young ladies who carried the flowers were Alma Torkelson, Alma Mork and Selina and Josie Jensen. The pall bearers were: Tom, Clarence, Oscar and Carl Torkelson, Enock Mork and Alfred Jensen.
