Elkader Register, Thur., 13 June 1912. Elkport and Vicinity column.
Marie Conners was born at Bagley, Wis., Aug. 10th, 1899, and died at Elkport, Iowa, June 04th, 1912, aged 12 years, 9 months and 24 days.
The first four years of her life were spent at Bagley. From there her parents moved to Cassville, Wis., and after living there six years they moved to Glen Haven, Wis., where they remained only one year, moving from there to Elkport, Iowa, their present home.
Marie was a very sweet and lovable little girl, being a great favorite with her teachers and schoolmates. She received her first Holy Communion in November of 1911 and was confirmed by Arch Bishop Keane, of Dubuque, just four weeks before her death.
In the hope that she would gain health and strength, she was taken to Ottawa, Ill., to a Tent Colony, but finding it too lonesome for her there, her mother was obliged to bring her home, arriving here on Friday before her death. Very tired was little Marie but perfectly satisfied and contented to be at home again.
The funeral was held on Friday. Father Minogue spoke of Marie's many rare gifts, her loving disposition and her religious character. He also offered words of love and cheer to the sorrowing family. She leaves to mourn her early death a mother and father and two brothers, Francis and Bernard, also a grandfather and grandmother, besides uncles, aunts and cousins and a host of sorrowing friends. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
Marie is not lost to us, only gone before.
