Mary J. Pardee was born in B_____, LaFayette county, Wis., Dec. 22, 1832, and died April 2_, 1912. She was a daughter of Dennis Murphy and Eliza, nee B__________. She was married in 1849 to Thomas Swift, by whom she had one child, James M. Swift, who died at the age of 47 years. His family is still residing at Kensington, Kas. She was married to Smith Pardee June 3rd, 1863. One child was born to this union, Willis Pardee, now residing at Hagerman, New Mexico. This son, a half-sister and six grandchildren survive her. The step-daughter-in-law and four step-grandchildren, who have resided here, were the same to her as her own, also a step-daughter and 6 step-grandchildren reside in Minnesota. She united with the Christian church in 1866 and has ever kept her membership with them. She was a kind mother, a true friend and a good neighbor. Only those who knew her could understand her sterling qualities. She has gone but will ever live in the hearts of those who loved her and to whom she was a mother and a true friend.
