Elkader Register, Thur., 25 Apr. 1912. Read column.
On Saturday, April 20th, at the home of her son, August Taake, occurred the death of Mrs. Wilhelmina Taake at an advanced age, after an illness of several years duration. She was born in Germany on July 14, 1833 and was united in marriage in her native land with Henry William Taake in 1853. Emigrating to the United States in 1857 they settled in Read township, where the deceased has since lived. Mrs. Taake was the mother of fourteen children, of which six died in early youth. The eight surviving are: Fred, Henry, George and August, all living on their respective farms in this township; Wm. Taake, her oldest son, living near Farmersburg; her three daughters, Mrs. Chas. Kelpein, Mrs. Theo. Glawe and Mrs. J. H. Schwenke, of Hartford, S.D. In the fall of 1897 her husband died, since when she has made her home with her youngest son, August. She was ever interested in the welfare of her children. Both Mrs. Taake and her husband were among the early pioneers of this county and of the times hardships and privations of such life were identical with the economic development of our country. During the last years the deceased was an invalid and almost helpless the last few weeks, previous to her demise, till death came to her relief. The funeral was held at Clayton Center on Tuesday from her late home, amidst a large gathering of friends and relatives, Rev. J. Burkhard officiating.
