Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Apr. 1912. Strawberry Point column.
A wave of sadness passed over the community Wednesday when it was learned that Clarence Stringer had passed away at his home at 4:30 that morning, after an illness of only a few days duration with typhoid-pneumonia. He was taken sick Thursday afternoon, and while it had been known since Sunday that he was in a critical condition, the news of his death came as a shock to the entire community.
Mr. Stringer was a loyal citizen and an industrious young man, having been engaged as an auctioneer and a painter and paper hanger for a number of years.
Clarence R. Stringer was born on the Tyler Gilcherist farm, June 10, 1878 and had he lived until the 10th of next June he would have attained the age of 34 years.
In 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Finchel and to this union were born three children, Bernice, aged 11, Rayfield, aged 9, and James, aged 7, all of whom survive him.
Besides the wife and children he is survived by his mother, who made her home with him; five sisters, Mrs. Gertie Reid, of Idaho; Mrs. Edna Braun, of Idaho; Mrs. Blanch Roberts, of Elgin, Ill.; Mrs. Emma Alderson and Mrs. Ida Stewart, both living near town; and three brothers, Percy, of Elgin, Ill.; Howard, of Idaho, and John, of Lacomb, Alberta, Canada.
He had made preparation to unite with the German Lutheran church and had he lived and been able would have been taken into the church as a member Sunday.
Short services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, at the German Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Graf, after which the remains were laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery.
