Katharina Maria Henning, nee Schulz, was born on Feb. 12, 1834, in Grasz, Schmaelen, Mecklenburg, Schwerin. The early days of her youth were spent at the home of her parents until her departure for America.
In 1861 on Jan. 18, she was united in marriage to Johann Henning, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Klein in the old parsonage of St. Paul's church.
Twelve children were born to this union, eight of whom preceded the parents in death. Those remaining are Charles, of this township, with whom she made her home, and Henry, Mrs. Elsie Schmalfield and Augusta Meyer, of Farmersburg.
The deceased was of a strong disposition and had always enjoyed good health, but the past year, since the death of her beloved companion, she has gradually grown weaker. Death came to her relief on the evening of Feb. 27, having reached the ripe old age of 78 years and 15 days.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church on Saturday, Rev. Braun officiating. The out of town attendants were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Oelke, Mrs. Henry Oelke, Sr., and son Christ, of Farmersburg; Karl Harnack and daughter, of St. Olaf, and David Drinkhahn, of Guttenberg.
