Elkader Register, Thur., 25 Aug. 1892.

Died- Sunday, August 21st, 1892, at his home in Read township, occurred the death of Fred Potton*, one of the pioneer settlers of that township. Deceased was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, and was 77 years of age. Thirty-two years ago he emigrated to the United States, locating in Read township upon the homestead where his death occurred. An aged wife and two grown children are left to mourn his death. The funeral took place Tuesday, his remains being laid to their final rest in the Read cemetery, Rev. F. W. Seifert officiating.
