Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Aug. 1892.
On Thursday, July 28th, 1892, at Rush Hospital, Chicago, Ill., occurred the death of Mrs. J. L. Curtis, of Ashton, Osceola County; aged 26 years.
Sue Cain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Cain of this township, was born in Cox Creek township, Clayton County, in 1866. She was raised to womanhood among us, and was highly esteemed by all for her many womanly virtues. Two years ago she was married to James L. Curtis, of Ashton, Iowa, and seven months ago a bright little son came to bless their home. A short time since she was taken sick with an obstruction of the bowels, which could not be relieved, and accompanied by her husband, son and brother, Dr. J. W. Cain of this place, she went to Chicago to undergo an operation. Her weakened condition and the insufferably warm weather, added to the shock of the operation proved to much for her, and she passed away.
Her remains were brought to Elkader Friday, and on Saturday were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at this place. The funeral services were attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives, attesting the warm regard in which she was held by those among whom she had been raised to womanhood.
The bereaved husband and motherless little son, together with the father, mother and brothers of the deceased residing in this vicinity, have the heartfelt sympathy of all our citizens in their great loss.
