John Leithold, one of the early settlers of this township, died Tuesday morning at two o'clock, after a short illness. Deceased was a native of Weiserstadt, Bavaria, and was nearly 84 years of age. His early life was spent in the old country, but in 1856 he with his family came to the United States and settled on a farm in Clayton township, where they have resided continuously since. He leaves an aged wife and six grown children to mourn the death of a kind husband and parent. He was an uncle of J. B. and Wolfgang Schmidt, of Elkader. The funeral will take place Thursday morning, his remains being laid to their final rest in the Garnavillo cemetery.
