Tuesday evening about 11 o'clock occurred the death at his residence in Cox Creek township, of Joseph Meyers, of blood poisoning, at the age of 50 years. Some ten days ago Mr. Meyers ran a thorn into his thumb but did not deem it worthy of his notice. It grew worse however, and finally resulted in his death. Mr. Meyers was a worthy citizen whose sudden demise will be deeply regretted. He leaves a wife and eight children who will receive the heartfelt sympathy of their friends. The funeral will take place from the Catholic church at Elkader, at 10 o'clock Friday morning.

Joseph Meyers, who died March 22, 1892, was born in New Wine, Dubuque County, Iowa, Aug. 31, 1844. At about 19 he commenced farming in Cox Creek twp., Clayton County, and soon after married Margaret Liddy, with whom after living a short and happy married life, being blessed with four children, he was parted by her death. He was married the second time to Lizzie Whittle, and she and four minor children mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father. Joe has always been a good father to his family and an excellent neighbor, being liked by old and young of his neighborhood. May he rest in peace.
