Elkader Register, Thur., 03 Jan. 1889 (Garnavillo column)

Died at the home of Xavier Sheffert on Friday, December 28th, 1888, Louis Scheffert, aged 6 years. The remains were interred at the Catholic cemetery on Sunday.

(Note: Both spellings of the surname were used in the obit, as shown here - neither are correct. He has a gravestone in St. Joseph's cemetery, Garnavillo. The family monument spells surname as SCHAEFERS, buried near his parents Xavier & Anna)
