Elkader Register, Thur., 23 Aug. 1888.
Died, at the residence of his parents in Boardman township, on August 14th, 1888, of typhoid fever, John H., son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hover.
Deceased was born on the homestead where his death occurred, November 27th, 1865, and was therefore nearly 23 years of age. Raised to manhood among us, he was known and respected by all in this vicinity. He was a steady, industrious young man, who was slowly but surely carving for himself a place in life. For some time past he had been working with E.P. Sawyer, drilling wells, and was with him when taken sick. He came home about two weeks before his death, but all that loving friends or medical skill could do was of no avail, death had claimed him for its own, and so he has passed to the home beyond the grave, there to await the coming of the loved ones left behind.
The funeral took place on Thursday last, services being held at the Catholic church at this place, after which his body was interred in the Catholic cemetery. The funeral was one of the largest we have seen in years, and tells better than can tongue of pen the high regard in which he was held by his neighbors.
