Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Aug. 1888. Farmersburg column.

A serious runaway accident occurred here last Saturday. Fred Corts who lives near here tied his team in front of the hardware store, leaving his two children in the buggy while he stepped inside. The team became frightened and breaking the hitching straps, started through town at a terrific rate of speed; turning a short corner the oldest boy was thrown out but luckily escaped injury. A short distance further on the buggy collided with a telegraph pole, throwing the other child out and injuring it so severely that he died Sunday morning. The parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.
