Elkader Register, Thur., 07 Jun. 1888. Volga column.
We have received news that Joseph Maddock, one of the early settlers of Sperry township, died at Dubuque on Saturday, June 2d, and will be buried in the Catholic cemetery on Cox Creek to-day. He was nearly 90 years of age. We became acquainted with him in 1855 when he settled on Hewitt Creek. He was a good neighbor and citizen and well informed. In September, 1876, his wife died, since which time he has lived on his farm alone.
