Tewes, Wilhelm died 1888

Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Mar. 1888.

Mr. Wm. Tavis*, a wealthy farmer residing in Read township, on the Garnavillo road, died suddenly on Thursday evening of heart disease. He had visited his son-in-law who resides near Monona, during the day and returned at dusk. He retired at his usual hour in apparent good health. In a short time he began to complain of restlessness and rapidly grew worse. Before his neighbors or medical aid could be summoned he died. His remains were buried at Clayton Center on Sunday. The bereaved family has our sympathies.

Note: Surname is TEWES, not Tavis as in the obituary. Wilhelm Tewes has a large gravestone in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Clayton Center.
