Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Jan. 1888. Garnavillo column.

Dr. C. W. Duffin was summoned to the home of Christ. Maker, near Clayton, on Monday evening by telephone, announcing the sudden death of Mrs. Maker, who was found dead in the cellar about 5 o'clock that evening. The doctor repaired thither and finding the case of sufficient importance summoned Coroner Cain. At the present writing we are unable to give particulars.

Note: The 1885 IA State Census, Clayton twp. enumerated Christian Maker, age 38; his wife Mary, age 39 - with 6 children aged 6 to 17 yrs
