Elkader Register, Thur., 03 Nov. 1887.

On Monday, October 31st, at the family residence in Read township, occurred the death of John Lynch, at the advanced age of (looks like 66/68/86/88) years.

Deceased was a native of Ireland, but came to the United States while yet a young man, and some thirty years ago settled in Read township. Here he lived and labored, and as a result leaves his family well provided for in a worldly way. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn the departure of a loving and provident husband and kind father. He was a very honest, conscientious man, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral occurred on Wednesday, at the Catholic church, Rev. Father Reilly officiating. A very large number of friends and neighbors were present to pay their last respects to a good and noble man.
