Upon Sunday, Oct. 20th, occurred the death of Mrs. Prudence (Wilkins) Van Allen, of Chicago, at the home of her parents eight miles east and north of Monona.Mrs. Van Allen was born in Fenney Compton, Warwickshire, England, July 25, 1857. She came to America with her parents in May 1873. In 1886 she was married to Seth Van Allen, of Chicago, in which city they made their home. Mr. Van Allen died in June 1897. Mrs. Van Allen continued to live in Chicago, however.
A few weeks ago she fell breaking a bone of a lower limb. She was recovering from this, but other complications set in which resulted in her death on Oct. 20th, a few days after being brought to her parents home.
There are left to mourn her death, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Wilkins, her brother, T.E. Wilkins, her sister, Mrs. Ed Hancock, all these being residents of Iowa; and Mrs. Roy Arms, of Springfield, Mo., and many near relatives.
She was buried in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. B.H. Cheney, of Monona.

Note! She has a gravestone in the Council Hill cemetery (sometimes referred to as Pleasant Ridge cemetery & other names). The engraved dates on the stone (1851-1909) are not correct. More than likely the gravestone was placed some time after her death and possibly replaced an original stone that no longer was legible.
