Elkader Register, Thur., 19 May 1887.
At 5:30 o'clock Sunday morning, the 15th inst., after having bade her sorrowing friends an affectionate "goodbye," the last for this world, the spirit of Ella T. Martin, wife of Sanford Peck, Jr., departed this life. The deceased was the daughter of Stephen and Alvira Martin, of Centerville, Iowa, where she was born in 1860. On the 04th of September, 1886, at Spearville, Kans., She was married to Sanford Peck, Jr., and came to Elkader to reside. Owing to the fact consumption, that dreaded leveler, had marked her for a victim, and not being able to go out, her acquaintance here was not very extended, but those most intimate testify to her loving disposition, her patient fortitude.
The funeral occurred on Monday at 10 a.m., from the family residence on the east side, Rev. I. C. Lusk officiating, attended by a number of sympathizing friends. After the services at the house the remains were laid away in the East Side cemetery.
The sorrowing family and the devoted young husband have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
