Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Apr. 1887.

Again our town has been thrown into great excitement, this time by the sudden death of Henry Kleeman, a well known citizen of Volga township. The facts as near as they can be had are as follows:

Mr. Kleeman came to town Friday morning and after doing up his business he stayed at east Elkport until about seven o'clock in the evening, when he started home, taking the railroad track. When near Polk Thayers residence the evening passenger going east, ran into him and injured him so badly that he died about five hours later. The railroad men claim that he got off the track and then got on again and that they were running at a very low speed when he was hit.

Mr. Kleeman was fifty years of age and leaves a large family. He is an old settler here. He was buried Sunday from the residence of C. Schnepf. No inquest was held. Mrs. Kleeman has the sympathy of hosts of friends in her sad affliction.
