Elkader Register, Thur., 13 Jan. 1887. Garnavillo column.

DIED- At his home in Garnavillo twp., on Wednesday evening Jan. 06th, Michael Fallon, at the advanced age of 76 years. The sudden death of this old settler, will add gloom to his many friends. Although Mr. Fallon had been in delicate health for the past year and had frequently been at death's door, still of late he had gained much in strength and his immediate friends and family entertained hopes of his recovery. He was able to walk about in his room, and even took exercise in the open air. It was while walking about in his yard that he was taken by a violent hemorrhage of the stomach, and was removed to his bed in a senseless condition. Although loving hands administered restoratives, and the best of medical skill was called, still, disease had so far undermined his constitution that they were of no avail. Death finally ended his suffering. His remains were buried at the Catholic cemetery on Saturday. The funeral train was one of the largest ever witnessed here. From far and near his friends gathered to pay their last sad tributes to the departed, and to whisper words of comfort to the bereaved family. Michael Fallon was born in the county of Sligo, Ireland, sometime during the year 1810; the exact date of his birth is not known to any of his family. He emigrated to this country in the year 1840, and settled in the state of Connecticut, where he remained for 16 years. In 1856 he removed to this county and settled upon the farm which he has ever since occupied. His family consisted of 12 children, 4 of whom are dead. Of those living two are married. Michael Fallon was a man who never knowingly wronged any person. Scrupulously exact in all his dealings he expected the same treatment from all who dealt with him. The great desire of his life was to give his children a good education; that being denied to him in his youth. For this he worked, and no sacrifice was to great for him in order to gain this end. His children will ever bless him for this. Although he did not amass much of worldly goods, still his family is in comfortable circumstances. May he rest in peace.
