Elkader Register, Thur., 11 Nov. 1886.
It is with much sorrow that we chronicle this week the death of Hiram Hammond, which occurred at his residence in Mallory township on Sunday last. Mr. Hammond was one of the pioneers of this county, having removed to Mallory township from Pennsylvania in 1851, locating on the farm where his death occurred. During his long residence in that township he has a various times held nearly all the local offices, and discharged their duties impartially and to the satisfaction of all concerned. In all his business transactions he was strictly reliable, and was honored and respected by all who knew him, and his death will be universally mourned. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. The funeral occurred on Tuesday, and was very largely attended.
