Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Nov. 1886.
On Saturday afternoon last, at his home in this place, occurred the death of Daniel Murphy, one of our old and highly respected citizens.
His death was very sudden and quite unexpected. Mr. Murphy came up town after dinner, got his mail, and after talking with some of his many friends and reading the papers, started for home. On going into his house he sat down in a chair and soon fell over, and in a few moments had ceased to live, his death being the result of heart disease. He had been ailing for a long time but none expected to hear of his death, and all were shocked by his sudden taking off.
Mr. Murphy was a native of County Cork, Ireland, and was about 67 years of age. He came to this county over a quarter of a century ago, living for several years in Farmersburg and Cox Creek townships, but located in Elkader some five years ago. He leaves a wife and very many friends to mourn his loss. He was an honest, upright, hard-working man, whose every dealing with his fellow man was in accordance with the golden rule.
The funeral occurred on Monday from the Catholic church, and was very largely attended.
