Elkader Register, 07 Oct. 1886. Littleport column.
That dreaded foe death has again visited us and has taken one of our most esteemed and respected citizens - John Donahoe - a native of Ireland, he came to this country years ago and by labor and economy secured a comfortable home, and by his sterling integrity won the regard of all who knew him. He leaves a wife and family among which are grown up ladies and gentlemen, (which they are, in the true sense of the word.) They have the sympathy of the community at large. The funeral took place at the Catholic cemetery near Littleport, on Sunday afternoon, and was largely attended. The Rev. Father Corbett officiated.
