Died on Tuesday, 11 (May), 1886, Willie A. Smidt, son of Michael Smidt, of this place. Willie was born in Germany, Jan. 01st, 1872, and was therefore a little over 14 years of age. He emigrated to this country in Oct. 1881, since which time he has resided in our town. Early last fall he was attacked by inflammatory rheumatism from which he suffered during the winter. With the opening of spring he rapidly recovered, and his parents hoped soon to see him fully restored. But heart disease had been developed from his long sufferings, and death finally ended his young life. Willie was a good boy. His parents and teacher placed great hopes in his future. His remains were carried to the grave on Thursday, followed by a large number of friends. Both departments of our schools with their teachers, accompanied the remains of their former playmate, and deposited in the grave many floral offerings in token of their sorrow. Rev. Sommerlad preached a very impressive sermon.
