Giard: The death of Fred C. Heimbrodt, well known and respected resident of Giard for 76 years, occurred at his home here Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Nov. 13th. Mr. Heimbrodt was born in Germany Feb. 10, 1851. In 1854 he came with his parents to America coming direct to Giard township, Clayton County, and locating in Giard. With the exception of one years residence in Mendon township, he has made his home here for 76 years. March 28, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Muller. Seven children were born to this union. The wife and one son, Arthur, preceded him in death. The surviving are: Clara, Mrs. M. Patterson, of Corwith: Emma, Mrs. L. Knight, of Eagle Grove: Ella, Mrs. B. Hartbeck, of Strawbery Point; Catherine, Mrs. L. Persson, of Edgewood; Nettie, Mrs. C. Escher, of Corwith; and LeRoy at home.
Mr. Heinbbrodt was a carpenter by trade and was an industrious and competent workman. He enjoyed good health until two years ago when he suffered a severe attack of the flu, from which he never completely recovered. His last illness was of brief duration, lasting about one week. He was known as a man of a quiet and unassuming nature and highly respected by all. He was a member of the Giard Methodist church and a faithful attendant whenever circumstances permitted. He was a kind father and a good neighbor and friend. The members of his family were summoned here a week ago. He was given the best of care until the final call, which came Friday afternoon at three o'clock. He leaves to mourn six children, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Adam Debes, McGregor, and one brother, Charles, of Clinton, besides numerous other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from home and the Giard M.E. church. Rev. W. L. Feller officiated. Interment was in Giard cemetery.
