Alva Purvis, who for a number of years has been living in Littleport, died suddenly at his home last Monday evening.
While Mr. Purvis had been in failing health for some weeks, his death was
unexpected and a shock to his family and friends.Funeral services were held this morning at Manchester.

Alva Purvis died at the age of forty-one years at his home in Littleport, Monday, August 31, 1931, at ten p.m., following an illness of two weeks' duration.
Mr. Purvis was born September 15, 1889, at Manchester, Iowa, the son of Alex and Catherine Purvis. May 22, 1909, he was united in marriage with Miss Agnes Hyler at Manchester.
For the past eleven years the Purvis family has been residing in Littleport where Mr. Purvis operated a restaurant. For three years previous to that time they resided here in Elkader where the deceased was employed in the Schultz meat market and the family enjoyed a large acquaintanceship.
The deceased is survived by his widow, one son, Loren Purvis of California, and three daughters, Mrs. Isle Hitchcock of Wood and Frances and Marian at home. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Catherine Purvis of Minneapolis and one brother, Ray Purvis of Chicago.
Funeral services were held last Thursday morning at nine o'clock in Sacred Heart church, Littleport, the Rev. Father Goetzinger officiating. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery at Manchester.
Pallbearers were: Wesley Phelps, Harold Liddy, Wm. Behrens, Chris. Behrens, Joe Kafer and Wm. Hakert.
Mr. Purvis was a devout member of the Catholic church and also held membership in the Woodmen Lodge. His family has the sincere sympathy in his early death.
