Clayton County Register, Thur., 30 July 1931.
Garber: Karl*, the four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sandkamp, was almost instantly killed Monday evening when the car in which he was riding with his mother and an older brother, went into the ditch near the George Heck farm in Volga township.
The Sandkamp family lives on the Stegelman Bros. Farm in Volga township, known as the Lau farm, about six miles north of here. Mrs. Sandkamp and the two boys were driving to a neighbors farm to get Mr. Sandkamp, where the latter had assisted with the threshing. Turning off the main road the mother accidentally stepped on the foot throttle instead of the brake, driving the machine into a ditch where it tipped over, catching the victim's head between the door and door post and almost instantly killing him.
Mrs. Sandkamp was also seriously injured in the accident but the older boy was unhurt.
