Mable Thoday, born at Willingham, Cambridgeshire, England, July 27, 1864, died Tuesday, March 17, 1931, at the age of 66 years. She was a daughter of John A. and Harriet Thoday and was one of a family of twelve children.
With her parents had come to America in the '40's. The climate proved to be harmful to her father's health, so they returned to England. Her education was received in Willingham and after graduation from the Chautauqua Nurses training school, she nursed for several years in the British Isles and France.
Later she came to Canada to care for her sister Mrs. Charles Woodgridge, and then to the United States where she made her home with her brother Allen and wife near Volga. She continued her nursing in this and adjoining counties.
On June 19, 1911, she was united in marriage to John Roys of Volga. The couple made their home on Mr. Roy's farm in Highland township. In 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Roys moved into their home in Volga where she lived until her death.
In early life Mrs. Roys was a member of the Baptist church in Willingham. When she came to Volga her membership was transferred to the Presbyterian church where she remained active.
Last October Mrs. Roys suffered a paralytic stroke and died Tuesday night.
Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her death, one sister, Mrs. Charles Woodbridge, at Salmon Arm, British Columbia; three brothers, Louis, Philman, and Ebenezer in England; one niece, Mrs. Ella Mathews at Ann Harbor, Mich.; and a nephew and niece, Phil and Kathleen Woodbridge, at Monirse, Wash.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. A. B. Chamberlain as officiating pastor. Burial was made in the Hill Crest Cemetery.
