Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 Mar. 1931.
This community was shocked Saturday forenoon when it was learned that Fred L. Heiden, 65, local hardware dealer, had attempted to take his own life by cutting his throat shortly before ten o'clock.
Mr. Heiden went to the basement of his store and fixed the fire, but did not return upstairs and after a time his daughter, Leah, became alarmed and summoned help. He was taken at once to his home and every possible effort was made to save his life. These efforts, apparently, seemed successful for a time, but early Monday evening he grew weaker and death came to his relief at eight-thirty that same evening.
Mr. Heiden had been in failing health for about three months and worry over his condition is no doubt the reason for his act.
