Clayton County Register, Thur., 25 Dec. 1930.
Jorgen Gunderson died at his home in Clemont Thursday evening, Dec. 18, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 18 days. Jorgen Gunderson was born in Boscobel, Wisconsin, Nov. 03, 1857. In the year 1860, when three years of age, he came with his parents to Iowa and they settled on the farm in Clayton County that later became his home and where he lived his entire life up until seven years ago when having retired from farming he with his daughters Josie and Emma moved to Clermont residing there up to the time of his death. On Feb. 17th, 1879 he was united in marriage to Ingeboy Welson at the Norway church by the pioneer pastor, Rev. Ole Waldeland. To them were born four children two of whom have passed away, namely Joren who died at the age of 14 years and Josie on March 30th, 1925. Mrs. Gunderson preceded her husband in death by nine years having passed away, August 23, 1921.
There lives to mourn this loveable man's death his two daughters Inger, Mrs. Thore Thompson, Wadena, Iowa, and Emma who resided at home with her father at Clermont and lovingly cared for him to the last. Also seven grandchildren and two brothers, Embert of Elkader and Henry of Flom, Minn., besides many other relatives and friends who knew Mr. Gunderson and respected him. He was truly a man worthy of our respect, always kind and considerate. A man who thought deeply and whose decisions rested not upon what was the will of man but what was pleasing unto God. For the past three years Mr. Gundeson has not been well but the dreaded illness cancer that finally claimed him made its appearance about a year ago and although he has at times suffered much it is only during the last two weeks that he has been helpless. Everything that medical skill and careful nursing could do was done but to no avail and so as his prayer has been for some time, "come Lord Jesus, I put my trust in thee, take me home," so death came quietly on Thursday evening. The funeral was held at the Norway church at 1:00 Monday afternoon. Rev. Gunsten of Clermont and Rev. S. J. Strandjord of St. Olaf officiated. Martin Welson, S. Welson, Albert Christenson, A. Anderson, Harold Landsgaard, John Moen acted as pallbearers.
