Clayton County Register, Thur., 11 Dec. 1930.
Mrs. S. W. Beckett (nee Mae Elizabeth Miller), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. R. Miller of McGregor, Iowa, was born Feb. 6, 1856. Mrs. Beckett was married Dec. 25th, 1879, at the home of her parents at McGregor to S. W. Beckett of Clayton, Iowa, by Rev. Cragen, a Baptist minister.
Mrs. Beckett has been in poor health for nearly two years and a patient sufferer. Two years ago, while visiting her daughter, Mrs. R. Gager, in Cresco, she slipped and fell, breaking her ankle, from which she never fully recovered at her advanced age. The family did everything to make her comfortable and the last two weeks she was helpless and gradually getting worse until God relieved her. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and seven children, Mrs. Ralph Gager, Charles City, Iowa; Victor Beckett of McGregor; Mrs. Fred Tatro, Clayton, Iowa; Alvin Beckett, McGregor; Evelyn Beckett of Los Angeles, Calif.; Peter Beckett, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. W. D. Kellogg, Hutchinson, Kansas, and 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death. Mrs. Beckett passed away Thursday, Dec. 04th at 10:50 a.m. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the house, Rev. G. J. Zeillnger of Dubuque officiating. A large crowd of surviving friends paid respects to their departed friend. The pall bearers were the three sons and sons-in-law. Burial was in the Clayton cemetery.
