Clayton County Register, Thur., 24 April 1930. Strawberry Point column.

Eunice Mary, daughter of the late James and Margaret McTaggart Byrnes, was born at Farmersburg, Ia., Feb. 20, 1863, and passed away Tuesday after a lingering illness. At the age of two years she moved with her parents to a farm in Sperry township where she resided until she moved to Strawberry Point where she has since been a resident.

Her whole life was one filled with unselfish deeds and generous actions and she was loved by all who knew her. Throughout the long illness she was the most patient of sufferers, never complaining, and always cheerful and ready to meet her friends with a smile. Her good and virtuous life was her daily preparation for death and she feared it not, so great was her love for God, always trusting in His mercy, and perfectly resigned to His holy will.

She was a member of the Catholic church all her life and died in that faith, loving the church and its teachings and being one of the most devout worshippers. Her father preceded her in death July 20, 1896, her mother, Oct. 29, 1916, and two brothers, James, May 20, 1880, and John, Jan. 13, 1895.

She is survived by one brother, W. J. Byrnes of Strawberry Point and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Glennon and Miss Mary Byrnes of Strawberry Point and Mrs. Sarah Thyne of Doon, Ia., also six nieces and five nephews besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at St. Mary's church, conducted by Rev. John R. Bowen, who paid a most touching and beautiful tribute to the life of the deceased. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery. Six friends of the family were the casket supporters: J. J. O'Brien, J. J. McDermott, George Davis, D. J. Ivory, Wm. Baldridge and J. M. Quinn.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: J. J. Byrnes, Lizzie Webber and J. J. Thyne of Milbank, S.D., James Crowley, Mrs. F. G. Speich and daughter, Miss Lucile, of Pittsville, Wis.; Miss Agnes Glennon of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. James Dunn of West Union, Mrs. Hoover and son, Stephen Donlon and Dan Gleason of Elkader.
