Gilbert Haven Wiethorn

Gilbert Haven Wiethorn, Jr., 74, Monona, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon following a long illness.

He was born on January 2, 1930, on the family farm, rural McGregor, to Gilbert Haven, Sr. and Clara (Fett) Wiethorn. He attended Cooper Valley County School through eighth grade.

August 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ednah Mae Moose at the Methodist Church in Monona. One daughter was born to this union. Gilbert and Ednah farmed until retirement in 1991 and moved to Monona in 1999, where they were members of Garden City United Methodist Church. Gilbert loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and watching wildlife.

Survivors include his wife, Ednah Mae Wiethorn, Monona; a daughter, Sheryl (Robert) Moses, Monona; three grandchildren, James (Sherrod) Moses, Eureka, IL, Lori (Jared) Cagley, Waterloo, Lisa Moses, Monona, and many nieces and nephews.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister-in-law, Wilbert and Gretchen Wiethorn.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona. Music was performed by Priscilla Miene, organist and Carole Gerdes, soloist.

Honorary Casket Bearers were his grandchildren, James and Sherrod Moses, Lori and Jared Cagley, and Lisa Moses. Casket Bearers were Kurt Wiethorn, Brad Wiethorn, Jack Mulholland, Scott Kerr, Kenneth Kerr, and Richard Berns.
