Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Mar. 1930.

It has pleased God in his infinite wisdom to call out of life a loving wife, mother and sister.

Minnie Berns, nee Futter, daughter of Josephine and Martin Futter was born in Volga Township, Clayton County, Iowa, in the year 1864 and passed away suddenly on Tuesday March 18th, 1930, at the age of 66 years, 1 month, and 27 days. On January 5th, 1884, she was united in marriage to Henry Berns in St. Michael's Catholic Church at Elkport, Iowa, by Rev. Forgarty. To this union nine children were born, four sons and five daughters, namely, John of Garber, Ia., Realto of Elkport, Ia., Edwin of Osbourne, Ia., Mrs. Henry Klink of Communia, Ia., Mrs. Earl Meder of Mederville, Ia., Marvin and Mrs. Frank Quinlan of Strawberry Pt., Ia. Two daughters have preceded their mother in death, they were Kathryn, who died at the age of 12 years and Adeline who died in infancy. Besides her griefstricken husband and children she leaves 10 grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Buchman of Dubuque, Ia., Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer of Garber, Iowa, and Mrs. Mike Zapf of Elkport, Ia.

Mrs. Berns was a kind and loving wife and mother with a cheerful disposition and was loved by all who knew her. She was a kind and true friend and neighbor and showed her sincerity by the constant acts of charity and love which she performed. After her marriage they lived on a farm in Volga Township for many years, then with her husband moved to Elkader and lived there for several years. Then they moved to Strawberry Point, where they lived with their daughter, Mrs. Frank Quinlin for a number of years. From there they moved to Garber where they made their home with their son John, at whose home Mrs. Berns died.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. Goetzinger assisted by Rev. J. Bowen of Strawbery Point, Ia., on March 21. The remains were laid to rest in St. Michael's cemetery, accompanied by a large number of relatives and friends, who came to pay their respects to the deceased. The pallbearers were as follows: Ben Voss, Alfred Hall, Leo Flaherty, Mike Stence, Henry Plagman and Thor Frisco.

Dear mother, we're lonesome with-
out you,
We long for the light of your
smile.
We're thinking and dreaming about
you,
We have parted - but just for a
while.
Through the years you toiled for
us only,
And taught us to love and obey.
Dear mother, though God took you
from us,
Your Spirit is with us to stay.

(Note: Both spellings, Quinlan/Quinlin, were used in the article, as shown.)
