Elkader Register, 09 Jan. 1930.

Arthur Frederick, the youngest of ten children of August Koehn and Wilhelmine, nee Krueger, was born on the home farm in Cox Creek township, June 22nd, 1911, and passed away at the family home in Elkader, Iowa, on Saturday, January 4th, 1930 at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, at the age of eighteen years, six months and twelve days.

Last winter Arthur suffered with influenza, which, perhaps, was the beginning of his ailments. Being very ambitious, he worked on a farm for about one month the following spring, but had to give up because his weakened condition would not permit hard manual labor. Later in the summer and the fore part of last fall he was confined to the sick-bed for about three months. But he rallied from this siege of sickness, and was able to be up and about, which gave rise to the hope that he might regain his health and strength. Three weeks ago he went out to the old home farm for a visit with his brother William and family, but was taken sick the following day. When his condition became more serious, he was taken home; but although receiving the best of care from loved ones, it soon became apparent that he was failing fast. Peaceful was the end of the young life.

The departed is survived by the grief-stricken parents, Mr. and Mrs. Koehn, five sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Otto Beyer of Elkader, Robert of Communia, Mrs. John Maehl of Elkader, Mrs. Roy Harnack of Elkader, William of Communia, Mrs. Edwin Oathoff of Turkey River, and Hirma of Dubuque, Iowa.

Two brothers preceded him in death, both having lost their life in an accident, Harley, on Sept. 14th, 1914 at the age of seven years, and Herman, on Sept. 13th, 1825, at the age of twenty-one years.

The bereaved family may be assured of the most heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and one-thirty at the Evan, church, with interment in the East Sise cemetery, the Rev. C. H. Franke officiating.
